PADI Dive Against Debris®
Make every dive meaningful and awaken your inner citizen scientist. With the Dive Against Debris® course, you will learn how collecting debris underwater not only cleans up nearby sites, but also produces important data: the information collected and reported becomes part of a global database that documents the problem of marine debris.
The course combines a good feeling, concrete action and the right impact – in a guided and sensible way. At the same time, you become part of the PADI Torchbearer™ mindset: divers who protect the waters and make every dive meaningful.
What will you learn?
In the course you will learn:
- to recognize what trash should be removed and what should not (safety and environmental considerations)
- to implement Dive Against Debris survey : sorting, recording and reporting
- to provide observational data PADI AWARE Foundation to a global database
- plan a cleanup dive with a partner: roles, route, collection and safe implementation
How is the course progressing?
- Dive Against Debris eLearning
- We implement in a guided manner a survey dive to collect underwater debris and data on waste that has ended up in the ocean
- After diving: weighed, sorted, recorded, recycled/disposed of and reported collected material for the PADI AWARE database
Who is it suitable for?
- You want to make diving a tangible good, through doing it
- You are interested in the environment and want to participate in providing accurate data
- You want to learn good practices in cleanup diving: what to collect, how to collect, and how to report
- Also suitable for groups and communities: a nice way to work together and leave the property in better condition
Standard
- PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or PADI Freediver™ or PADI Advanced Mermaid™ (or equivalent)
