PADI Ice Diver
If you are looking for adventure, special conditions and... “Not many people have experienced this” -experiences, PADI Ice Diver is for you. In ice diving, you get to dive from an opening under the ice, secured by a rope, see the winter underwater world and learn teamwork, where everyone has an important role. Bonus: you might also get to do some exhalation tricks under the ice.
Course idea
Ice diving is a team sport. In the course you will learn:
- opening site selection , preparation and safe operation on the ice
- rope protocols , signaling and communication on the surface and underwater
- Roles and responsibilities: support personnel, tender (rope person) and safety diver (safety diver)
- the effects of cold, preparation and emergency response models
- special features of the equipment and problem management
How the course is constructed:
1) NOTE: A drysuit and drysuit control are required for participation in the course. You will not be allowed to practice using a drysuit under the ice. Plan wisely and take the PADI Dry Suit Diver course with us well in advance, and you will be one step closer to your upcoming ice diving adventure!
2) Theory part: Due to the special nature of the course, the theory part is organized through Meets / Teams in an instructor-led manner - not as independent eLearning.
Day 1: setting up a space & practicing roles
On the first day, we will make a belay together, go through rope protocols, belays and practice in practice. During the course, everyone will get to try out different roles:
- as a rope person on the surface
- underwater with a rope in various tasks (e.g. communication, rope handling, safety routines)
Course dives: 3 ice dives
The course includes: three carefully guided ice dives , where you practice:
- use of safety rope and belay techniques
- signals, communication and line tending / line securing
- problem situations and safety diver activities
+ “topping it off” fun dive (optional)
We usually do some more after the course dives one extra fun dive – not mandatory, but recommended. Once the opening has been sawed open, why not make the most of it?
Who is the course suitable for?
- for those who want to experience one of the most adventurous specialties of diving
- for you who are fascinated by the winter underwater world and teamwork with safety first
- for those who want to learn how to act in exceptional circumstances in a guided manner
