Wetsuits
A wetsuit is an easy, affordable and comfortable choice when the water is not quite freezing: it keeps you warm with the insulating layer of neoprene and is suitable for both snorkeling and scuba diving. The thickness should be chosen primarily according to the water temperature:
-
1–2 mm : really warm waters, hot weather snorkeling, pools
-
3 mm : warm holiday waters / summer dives in warm destinations
-
5 mm : cooler waters and longer dives, often a “universal thickness” for many
-
7 mm : cold waters and for those with a cold head, can be justified even in summer in Finland – often with a hood included or separately
Additional tip: if you're in two minds, many people prefer to choose a slightly warmer option and adjust with a lighter base layer if necessary or leave out the hood/vest.
