Hoods
A neoprene hood is one of the most effective ways to add warmth to your dive: your head and neck cool down quickly, and the hood makes you feel much more comfortable even during breaks. The appropriate thickness is chosen according to the water temperature and your own tolerance for cold:
-
2–3 mm : warm waters / snorkeling when you want protection and a little extra warmth
-
5 mm : cooler waters and longer dives – for many, a “universal thickness”
-
7 mm : for cold waters and freezing temperatures, or when you want to maximize warmth (often in Finland)
Tip: if you're in between thicknesses, choose something a little warmer and make sure it fits well – a hood that's too loose will let water circulate and reduce performance.
